Martina Muller was born in Germany about 50 years ago. After teaching high school and raising a son here in Bend, she started taking classes in animal behavior, massage, and first aid. Wanting to expand the limited choices of quality boarding here in central Oregon, she decided to found her own cage free company. Martina started Kindred Spirit in a small east side residential neighborhood in 2006 and moved it to our current 3 acre paradise for dogs just north of Bend in 2012. Her 3 rescued dogs Pablo, Sparky and Kashi ably assist her in running the company. She teaches at the Waldorf School of Bend one day a week and loves to hike, kayak, read, laugh and tell stories...Martina lives at the ranch and shares her house with all the little dogs who come to Kindred Spirit as well as those who need special TLC because they are too shy to hang with the "big dogs" She is in charge of all scheduling, dog assessment, finances and staff development.
Rhianna Axon, an assistant manager at the ranch, is originally from Woodstock, New York. She obtained her degree in zoology there, and moved to Bend in 2014. She has worked with all kinds of exotic animals, from reptiles, to birds, to chimpanzees, but dog behavior is her passion. She is currently working to obtain her certification in canine training and behavior. In her free time, she enjoys painting, photography, and exploring with her mini aussie Bella.
Johanna Johnson, an assistant manager at the ranch, is from Olympia, Washington. She moved to Bend to be closer to some family. She is working towards an Applied Animal Behavior certification, and also has degrees in Psychology and Sociology. When not at the ranch, or her other position at the Humane Society, she likes to hike or go running with her dogs Zuma and Phillis.
Emma Lou Bons, an assistant manager at the ranch, is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. She has had furry friends all her life, and was previously a dog trainer at Petsmart. She was also a Youth Recreation Leader with Bend Parks and Recreation. We are so happy to have her because she shows us how passionate she is about dogs' welfare every day. When she's not working at the ranch, she likes to cook, read, draw, and hike with her husky Tesla.
Debra Walker, our personal assistant to Martina and the little dogs, is a native Oregonian, mother of 4 children and grandmother of 8! She has grown up on a farm, worked in the grocery business, and raised a litter of 10 bulldog puppies. At 45, she made her dream of going to beauty school a reality and now works as a free-lance hair stylist as well as helping at the ranch 5 mornings a week. Her absolute love of dogs led her to the Kindred Spirit ranch where she delights us with her cheerful spirit and strong work ethic.
